Adoption vs. Fostering

The Hart County Humane Society is a volunteer rescue organization. We use foster homes to house our rescues and we do not have an open door facility with a staff. Meet and greets are arranged by appointment once an application is approved.

Our dogs and cats are adopted to be family companions that live in the home with their family. While some dogs will require fencing, not all do. Cats are adopted to be inside always and adopters are not allowed to declaw them.

Veterinarian references are checked as part of our adoption screening process. If you are interested in adopting, please note that we prefer to adopt within a 250 mile radius of Hartwell, GA.

If you would like to become an approved adoptee, please complete our adoption application below.

FOSTERING

If you cannot provide a long-term home, consider becoming a foster home.

BEING A FOSTER PARENT

Becoming a foster home for a pet can be rewarding for both the home and the animal. Foster homes provide socialization, basic training, food, and medical care for the pet while waiting for a forever home. The Humane Society will provide everything needed to care for the animal while in your home. Pets are medically cleared and have received age-appropriate vaccinations.

Fostering could be from a couple of days to several months until we find an adoptive home. We are flexible and will work with you on your individual needs.
